You don't need to wear the latest badminton fashion or bring an expensive racquet, but there are some basic necessities.

Badminton Racquet

This basic piece of equipment can be purchased for as little as $25. Once you've been playing for a while, you may want to consider a better racquet in the $50-100 range, but take advantage of pre- or post-season discounts for lower prices.

Athletic Shoes

Bring athletic shoes with non-marking soles. Court shoes with gum rubber soles are most effective for indoor badminton.

Comfortable Attire

Bring clothes that will allow you to move freely and stay cool. If you've never played badminton, you'll likely be surprised by how much energy you can burn in a feisty game.

Eye Protection

Protective eye-wear, such as those used for racket sports, are recommended.
